Single photon detection sensitivity is achieved by operating the avalanche sensor array in Geiger mode. Internal gains are typically in the 1 billion range and the signal output is >1 volt. The signal output does not require further amplification and is compatible with CMOS logic. We are using fast recovery circuit designs at pixel level in order to increase the count rate capability beyond 10 MHz/pixel.
