Single photon detection sensitivity with Geiger Avalanche Photodiodes (GPD) is achieved by biasing the detector above the breakdown voltage (Geiger avalanche mode). Typical gain is in the 1 billion range and the signal output amplitude is greater than 0.5V without using external amplification. Our GPD arrays technology allows operation at low bias (typical 13V) and is compatible with LVCMOS logic. The Geiger avalanche is simply quenched using resistors in series with each pixel. For fast / high repetition rate applications we provide active quenching circuits either in FPGA or ASIC designs.
