We are developing sensor arrays for digital pixels sensors (DPS) and modules with single photon sensitivity and integrated functions at pixel level. Internal amplification at pixel level simplifies post-processing electronics and circumvents problems related to sampling, readout and digitization noise in active pixel sensors (APS). The major advantage of DPS design is digital-only processing of the array signal output and major circuit simplification at pixel level, thus opening opportunities for the implementation of  "smart pixel" designs.
